Humbugs VW Club

Humbugs VW Club of Humboldt County, CA is a not-for-profit family-oriented organization that contributes to local charitable groups and organizations.  It was started in June 2004 with its mission to, "share and promote  VW enthusiasm wherever possible . . . by sharing knowledge of the classic V-dub, including all air cooled and water cooled VWs (25 years or older), helping others in their quest to restore, modify or rescue those classic vehicles, and to have as much fun as possible in doing so."  

The club is made up of VW owners, former owners, future VW owners, and folks just interested in VW’s.  Humbugs holds an annual car show at Pierson Park, McKinleyville, CA with participants coming from around California and neighboring states.  Proceeds from our shows allows us to make donations to local non-profits and organizations such as the auto shop programs at Fortuna High School, Eureka High School, Arcata High School, and McKinleyville High School, to Miranda’s Rescue of Fortuna, to the Humboldt Animal Shelter, McKinleyville, to the Humboldt Wildlife Rescue Center, Manila, the Toys For Tots program, the Dow’s Prairie Grange, and others.  We also collect food and clothing and donate them to the Eureka Rescue Mission.  

We are a member of the McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce. 

The club holds  meetings either for breakfast or lunch.  We have a regular business meeting the second Sunday of each month.   Members also get together for informal breakfast or lunch meetings on various other Sundays or Saturdays TBD. Sometimes a drive or cruise is organized that usually includes a stop for lunch.  The public and prospective members are always welcome.  

Club members participate in the annual Rhody Parade and Pony Express Days Parade.  Some members also show their VWs at various local car shows such as the 2-Seat Car Show, The Bill Nessler Car Show, Fortuna AutoXpo, The Treffen, CruzNEureka, Moose and Elks Lodges, local residential care home facilities and other events.

The Humbugs club has two major yearly events.  The first Saturday in August is our VW car show, Coolin' It In The Redwoods, at Pierson Park, McKinleyville.   Our second major event is an annual holiday party in December hosted by the club.
